changing mtu mss and mru values

Postby tracygabs » Mon Mar 13, 2006 4:32 pm

unless someone has a better solution,i need to change mtu mss and mru settings on a win xp adsl machine ...problem is,since getting AOL msn messenger refuses to load,and from what can tell from other forums etc solution seems to be to input specific mtu mss and mru values,then it will load fine...now i know the values to input,and i have easily found ways to change mtu,but mrs and mss settings? cant for life of me find how to alter those-have downloaded tcp optimizer and cablenut,but if they allow changing of those two settings i couldnt suss it out-they named something different on those utils and i just being dim? or arent they optional changes i can make with those programs?(if latter would appreciate being pointed to a utility that will let me change them or alternative ways of doing so?
simularily,if someone knows a solution without changing those 3 settings,it would be MUCH appreciated as i realy do not want to lose msn messenger (even tho am sure alot better chat progs about,i have a ton of friends who only use it-so i need it heh)

isp=aol
op sys=win xp home

oh and i tried tcp anaylzer on speed guide net to see what i am set at already,but it wont load for me for some reason so cant post that am afraid-any other online analyzer places i can use?

I believe you are referring to the TcpReceive Segment Size and TcpSend Segment Size. Those should be MTU-40. If you use the "Enter MTU Manually" option with my cablenut calculator, it will give you the correct values.
